Bootcamp platform testing

Hello again!  I hope you've been having a great summer.

With Bootcamp just six weeks away, we are now evaluating our communications platform. There are several options for video conferencing and we are looking at all of them.  Before we commit to one specific platform, I would like to introduce everyone in a video conference on the target platform.

Wednesday, August 3, we plan to test Google Plus Hangouts in China. The following week, Wednesday 10, we will connect all participating universities in either Hangouts or Skype, depending on the outcome of the first test.

If you are interested in joining us for the first test on August 3, please let me know by confirming at jbritton@itli.lu so I can add you to the invitation list.  If not, I will add you to the second tests on August 10.

See you soon!

ATT: European Computer Science grads - Beijing universities join up.

I just returned from Beijing where we are planning bootcamps for both Renmin University and Tsinghua University, both consistently in the top three universities in China.  Other participating universities from last year include Shandong University and Tongji University in China, plus Kiev Polytechnic Institute in Kiev, Ukraine.

For students in France, Belgium and Germany, the University of Luxembourg Masters in Computer Science program offers this unique opportunity to form teams with other grads around the world in a business sponsored activity. Professors from participating universities select their best and most promising students to participate in the teams.   Remember, these are amoung the top universities in the world.  This is a chance for computer science students here to meet, collaborate with and form lasting friendships.

As a prospective computer science grad, are you interested in connecting and collaborating in Bootcamp teams?  Are you interested in networking with sponsors like Skype, SES-Astra and others? Here is an opportunity to exercise your creativity, make some new friends and, who knows, maybe even make some dough.  ;)

This year our technical infrastructure is based on Skype Labs' Group Video Conferencing and Google Shared Documents.  Businesses are also invited to participate to understand the dynamics of collaborative distance learning, where learners address business needs with group videoconferencing, simultaneous edited documents and compelling team projects.

In China, your local partner can participate in a parallel training application located anywhere in the world.  Our facilitator in Beijing, JIN Xiaohua,  can assure a smooth implementation of the learning methodology in China.

Why AccelanTech Update?

AccelanTech Update covers up to the minute information on projects and activities at AccelanTech along with related programs at the University of Luxembourg and the IT Linguistics Institute.  It also covers related events in other parts of the world.

To begin, you can follow the development of the MiCS TechESL Bootcamp 2011 that requires both the early organization for collaborative learning and the implementation of a technical communications platform to support it.  If you checked out the Prezi in the AccelanTech News item, you can see them in action. These updates will evolve throughout the summer.

This blog will also keep you up to date on this year's technical communications platform built on Skype's new group video conferencing facility to connect participants and team members from around the world.  In addition, you will learn how a bootcamp adds a learning dynamic that is so often missing in distance learning programs.  Collaborative distance learning more closely resembles an online multiplayer video game than a conventional distance learning program, especially when participants become committed to the interaction with team-mates from different countries.
